The distance between two equal points in amplitude of a wave, i.e. using water waves as an analogy, crest-to-crest or trough-to-trough. Speed of sound (V), frequency (f) and wave length (l) are related by the following equation:

V = fl

Low frequency sound waves have longer wavelengths than higher frequency sounds, i.e. wavelength and frequency are inversely proportional.
